Dear CSA Members, Looks like we have a nice dry stretch this coming week. What a relief! The tomatoes are starting to ripen and you will receive a basket of cherry tomatoes in your box this week. With so much rain, and minimal sun these past weeks, they are having a hard time. The warmer and dry weather forecasted will help. New this week... Carrots! The early carrots are always so sweet and delicious. Enjoy your carrots fresh, roasted, or steamed. Whichever way you prefer I'm sure they will be delicious! We hope you enjoy them. Unfortunately, we had to remove the carrots from the small shares, but we were able to add orient eggplant. These major list changes all have to do with the excessive rain we had in the past weeks.

We do apologize for the inconvenience.

But, not to worry there will be more eggplant for all members, and more carrots for all members in the coming weeks.

Enjoy this weeks harvest!

Candice for Everyone at Stoneledge Farm Please, note with all this rain some vegetables will not hold as long as they normally would. So please use them up. You will want to use up the cucumbers or summer squash first. You can also see my freezing and preserving tips at the bottom of this email.

You might notice some dark hard spots on the eggplant, and this is cosmetic damage only and will not change the flavor of the eggplant. This is scarring from the torrential rains we experienced these past weeks.

Storing Tips & Notes:

  • Spinach- Rinsed and stored in a salad spinner, or stored in a reusable bag in the refrigerator, or wrapped completely in a damp paper towel and stored in the produce drawer.

  • Lettuce- Salad spinner is best.

  • Carrots- Wrapped in a cloth and stored in the refrigerator, produce drawer.

  • Onions- Store in the produce drawer.

  • Purple Basil- in a jar of water and placed on the counter.
