Dear CSA Member, Maybe a little rain this week... we are dealing with another dry year so far here on the farm. But, we would prefer that over too much rain. We are conscientiously irrigating the crops that need it the most. Farmer Pete is very mindful of what needs water the most to reserve the water supply. Considering the lack of rain the crops are doing well. You can see the size of those lettuce heads! New in your shares this week Kohlrabi and escarole! Kohlrabi is a sweet vegetable you can use for a coleslaw, shaved and placed on a regular green salad or you can roast it. There are plenty of ways to use kohlrabi (click for more recipes). The escarole is a green that is typically used in Italian cooking. One of the top ways it is prepared is in a white bean soup that is just delicious. Storing Tips:
Lettuce / Mizuna Greens/Escarole- Rinsed in a well-drained salad spinner in the refrigerator.
Garlic Scapes- Stored in the crisper drawer and use as needed.
Kohlrabi- placed in the crisper drawer.
Beets: Wrap greens, and place in the crisper drawer.
Swiss Chard- Rinsed & stored in a produce bag in the refrigerator.
Things To Remember:
Fruit Shares begin the fifth week of delivery.
Marketplace Ordering Deadlines is 12 pm every Friday.
