Dear CSA Member, Another hot and very dry week with more of the same weather to come. Irrigation has been keeping the field watered but it is never the same as a good soaking rain. The sun is shining and it really does feel like the beginning of summer. Lettuce is the star of the share this week. The lettuces are beautiful with their vibrant colors and leaf shapes. There is also Frizee to add to your salad. Escarole is in the share and should not be confused with a lettuce. It has a thicker, tougher leaf and is best cooked as it has a slightly bitter taste. Along with dry beans, escarole makes a wonderful soup. Scapes, Kale, and Mustard Greens can all be used fresh or cooked. We all welcome new baby Emma June Kavakos. Candice and Emma are doing great and Grace is happy to have a new baby sister.
We hope you enjoy this week's harvest!
Sincerely,
Deborah for Everyone at Stoneledge Farm
